Summer Activities

A big thank you to all of you who have been able to send in your transition work, it will really help me get to know you better. Can’t wait to meet you over the next couple of days, and hope you are excited to be heading into Year 5!

It’s not quite the holidays yet, so I have still set some work to keep your brains active for the next couple of days. You are also free to access these at any time over the summer holidays as they will help you keep up your learning if you want to do so.

However, I know you have all had a lot of work to do at home and spending time relaxing and recharging your batteries is just as important, so do not see this list as a ‘must do’ over the break. The activities below are just suggestions.

I hope you have an excellent summer and see you in September!

Reading

I will certainly be spending my summer reading, and recommend you spend a decent chunk of time doing the same!  Remember, reading comes in a wide range of forms, so read the news on Newsround, read comics, read recipes, read everything!

You can use the annual Summer Reading Challenge to help motivate you and chart your reading; you can sign up at www.summerreadingchallenge.org.uk.The website also includes games and activities, as well as book recommendations. Some libraries are starting to re-open but you can still borrow e-books from Norfolk Library https://norfolk.overdrive.com/library/childrens.

There is also a FREE comic from the excellent Phoenix Comics to read here that I would suggest you have a look at:

Sumdog

Sumdog is available for you to use throughout the summer. It is a great way to practise your maths and to improve your speed and accuracy. I have set a challenge for the first week and there may be other challenges across the summer.

Times Tables Rock Stars

TTRS is also available for you to use at any time. Practising your times tables regularly will help with your speed and fluency. Times tables are used in many areas of maths , so becoming more confident with them will be really helpful.

Premier League Primary Stars

Premier League Primary Stars have set a challenge which runs throughout the summer. There is a daily activity to complete, many of which are for the whole family.

The link to their website page is https://plprimarystars.com/resources/summer-challenge#m-resource-2480-link. From here, you can download a link to the challenge poster which then links you to the different activities. There is also a certificate if you complete them all!

Spelling

If you want to keep practising spellings, here are two sites I think are useful:

https://www.spellzone.com/word_lists/games-10609.htm

https://spellingframe.co.uk/

The second one is a subscription site but has free games to use, so make sure you look out for those first!
