As part of our learning about nurses from history (Florence Nightingale, Mary Seacole and Edith Cavell), we welcomed Nurse Kitson into class to talk about nursing in the present time.
After inspecting our hands for cleanliness, she showed us some of the equipment that is used to diagnose patients’ illnesses. She then showed us how to bandage an arm and we tried to bandage each other.
Nurse Kitson then showed us a tourniquet and how it is used to help nurses to locate veins for taking blood samples.
Finally, we were shown how to tie a sling.
Thank you Nurse Kitson for giving up your time to visit us – it was a really interesting session.
